Medicare Coverage Review Made Simple
Medicare can feel confusing. We help you understand your options, including Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement, and Prescription Drug Plans.
Medicare Enrollment Timeline
Understanding when to enroll is critical. Missing your enrollment windows can result in lifelong penalties and gaps in coverage.
Initial Enrollment Period (IEP)
7-Month Window
Begins 3 months before your 65th birthday month, includes your birthday month, and ends 3 months after.
Annual Election Period (AEP)
Oct 15 - Dec 7
Anyone can join, switch, or drop a Medicare Advantage or Part D plan. Coverage begins Jan 1.
General Enrollment Period (GEP)
Jan 1 - Mar 31
If you missed your IEP, you can sign up for Part A and Part B. Coverage begins the month after you enroll.
Medicare Advantage OEP
Jan 1 - Mar 31
If you have a Medicare Advantage plan, you can switch to a different one or go back to Original Medicare once.
Late Enrollment Penalties
What happens if you miss your initial enrollment period?
If you don't buy it when first eligible, your premium may go up 10%. You'll pay this penalty for twice the number of years you didn't sign up.
Your premium may go up 10% for each full 12-month period you could have had Part B but didn't sign up. You pay this penalty for as long as you have Part B.
You may owe a late enrollment penalty if you go 63+ days without creditable drug coverage. The penalty is 1% of the national base premium multiplied by the number of uncovered months.
